Prime Time Adult Care Offers Savings Over Other Facilities

By Lois Thomson

One of the main goals of Prime Time Adult Care in Bethel Park is to help people remain in their homes by providing adult day services to those with a variety of needs. The facility is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and clients can go for all five days or just two or three days a week.

Jason Dolby, director of Prime Time Adult Care, said, "This arrangement not only helps the participants themselves, but is advantageous to the caregivers as well by providing them with a much-needed respite." What the clients receive is a day's worth of events specially designed for their particular needs.

Those staying at the facility can start their day with a social hour and light breakfast, then look forward to activities that range from mentally stimulating games like bingo or trivia, physical games like bowling, modified exercise, or fun diversions such as arts and crafts and musical performances. Mr. Dolby said that because the clients have different levels of reasoning and dexterity, the activities are tailored to two groups.

Prime Time has two distinct units, known as A and B, where individuals are placed according to their abilities. B unit is for those who are higher-functioning and can participate in activities with moderate assistance. The A unit is for people who need more help, and it is where participants with advanced dementia usually attend.

Prime Time Adult Care is an ideal solution for people who need assistance but who also want to stay in their homes. It can provide a portion of both worlds, and the best part is that a stay at Prime Time can save money when compared with other senior care options.

Mr. Dolby talked about those savings, saying, "We charge $66 per day and approximately $1,300 a month if you attend five days a week. If you compare that with in-home care, we would save you $214 per day. In assisted living we would save you up to $275 per day, and memory care would be a savings of $431 per day. Memory care is generally just shy of $10,000 per month." He said he bases his figures on Pennsylvania averages.

How are they able to do this? Mr. Dolby explained: "We charge less because instead of the individuals going full time into a personal care home, they just come to us during the day; yet we're still offering respite of up to 8 hours per day for the caregiver."
