Need Help With Your Winter Heating Bills?
Peoples Customer Support Team Can Help

Pennsylvania winters can be tough, which is why the Peoples Customer Support team works hard to help local families maintain heating service.  Peoples can help customers stay warm and avoid financial crisis through energy assistance and emergency programs.

Rita Black, Peoples Director of Customer Relations, explains. “A little help goes a long way this time of year,” she said. “Our goal is to connect families to the programs that are available and make it easy for them to receive the help they need.”

First, customers should take advantage of Budget Billing, which spreads higher winter bills over longer periods. Gas usage is averaged over 12 months of use, making the bill a similar amount every month.

Budget amounts are reviewed and adjusted periodically and may be increased or decreased depending on changes in use.  Call Peoples at 1-800-764-0111 to enroll in the program or sign up via Peoples online e-Account system peoples-gas.com.

Many PA residents take advantage of LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) grants that assist income-eligible customers in maintaining gas service. The government applies the funds directly to customer utility bills, based on income.

The program is open now and will close when funds run out. To get an application, call Peoples at 1-800-400-WARM (9276) or apply online through the PA COMPASS website. Income guidelines can be found at peoples-gas.com/LIHEAP.

CAP participants are given affordable, monthly, long-term bill payment plans so they can maintain gas service pay down balances. Payments are based on income, not on gas usage. Customers can start the enrollment process over the phone when they call Peoples at 1-800-400-WARM.

Homeowners with limited incomes who are facing a failing heating system or gas line leak can receive help for repairs or replacement. Another option for customers looking to save money on gas bills is the Low Income Usage Reduction Program (LIURP). LIURP helps customers by making homes more energy efficient. Some measures that LIURP takes to “weatherize” homes may include caulking or adding insulation. Call 1-800-400-WARM to learn if you are eligible.

Dollar Energy Fund is an organization committed to improving the quality of life for households experiencing hardships, by providing utility assistance and other services.

Over the past 33 years, Dollar Energy Fund has provided $131 million in utility assistance grants to more than 470,000 families and individuals.

Call 1-800-400 WARM to learn more about how Dollar Energy services can help you. Or, if you want to help, you can assist your neighbors by donating just $1.00 per month on your utility bill. Working together, even this small amount can have a big impact.

“Every day, our team works closely with agencies such as North Hills Community Outreach, and United Way’s PA 2-1-1 Southwest help center,” continued Rita. “Our missions are all simple, but equally powerful: We all strive to help the people in our communities who need it the most. We want our customers to give us a call so we can help.”
