New State-of-the Art Dementia Care Coming Soon to Washington County

According to the National Alzheimer’s Association, every 65 seconds someone in the United States develops the disease. As the prevalence of this disease has grown, Presbyterian SeniorCare Network began to see a greater demand for dementia care expertise and programs within the care communities we serve, particularly Washington County.

In response to the growing needs of older adults, we completed a market study that showed the need for Alzheimer’s and dementia care in Washington County far exceeded what was available in the region. At the Presbyterian SeniorCare Network Washington campus, specialized dementia care is provided within a designated wing at the Southminster Place personal care community, as well as the Southmont skilled nursing community. These designated dementia care wings, which we call Woodside neighborhoods, are typically 100% occupied.

Recognizing the need, we decided to expand our footprint on our existing Washington campus, and in 2018, we broke ground for the construction of Woodside Place of Washington, one of the first free-standing assisted living communities in Washington County that is totally focused on Alzheimer’s disease and dementia care.

Leveraging our more than 25 years of pioneering experience in the field of dementia care, the new Woodside Place of Washington is being built to assisted living standards. The 36-bed split-level two-story building will offer continuous walking paths, plenty of green space and a dedicated area for an adult day program. We anticipate the community to open in the fall of 2019.

To celebrate the new Woodside Place of Washington, as well as to share what we’ve learned about dementia care and services over the years, our teams have created an informative Dementia Education Series for the Washington area and surrounding communities.

Educational events are being held once a month through October and the topics are specific to dementia care and education. We have events ranging from music and memory, to technology and dementia care, to how your diet affects your brain, and more! To view the upcoming events and to register now, visit www.SrCare.org/EducationWash.

The Woodside model of care has been replicated more than 100 times world-wide. To learn more about Alzheimer’s and dementia-specific care and service options at the Presbyterian SeniorCare Network Washington campus, please visit www.WashingtonSrCare.org.
