Family House Celebrates Thirty Years Providing a Home Away from Home at Commemorative Event

Over the past thirty years, thousands of patients locally and from all over the country and the world have found solace during times of need at Family House. Patients and their families who may have otherwise been forced to stay in expensive hotels and even their cars have found a safe haven at one of the largest hospital hospitality houses in the country.

On Thursday, December 5, Family House board members, founders, friends, and staff gathered to celebrate thirty years of providing an affordable, convenient, attractive and comfortable place for patients and their families to stay while awaiting treatment.

Dr. Bob and Jackie Capretto hosted nearly 85 people in their Oakmont home. Hors d'oeuvres and cocktails were served and Executive Director Bob Howard and Chairman of the Board Glen Feinberg thanked guests for their dedicated support over the years. Honored guests included Joel Ettinger, Dr. Thomas Starzl, Mary Lou McLaughlin and Pat Siger who shared their memories, guest stories, and spoke about Family House's promising future.

"It was a great opportunity to celebrate thirty years with everyone involved in making Family House what it is today. We look forward to continuing our medical hospitality for the next thirty years and beyond," said Bob Howard.

Family House began as just one house with minimal vacancies has grown to four, housing 14,000 families a year, thus solidifying Family House as a critical component of Pittsburgh's medical community. The 30th anniversary has been celebrated throughout 2013 at the annual Gifting Gala and Polo Match, as well as a volunteer luncheon and other celebratory events. As Family House marks its 30th anniversary, it recognizes the important milestones and supporters that have shaped the nonprofit into one of today's largest hospital hospitality houses.
